Pappy Johnson, the son of the late Geevarghese and Rachel Pappy, was born on February 21, 1947 into the Hebronvilla family in Chettikulangara, Mavelikara as the fourth of six children. He was born and raised in a strong Pentecostal family.
He had a passion for the pursuit of knowledge. He attended Thiruvalla Marthoma College where he attained a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Later he obtained a law degree from the University of Bombay and a Business Management certificate from Columbia University. In addition to his pursuit of secular degrees, he was passionate about studying the word of God. He spent most of his life studying systematic theology and found much gratification in teaching this aspect of theology to young adults.
He began his career as an Income Tax Officer in Bombay where he was employed for seven years. In 1973, he immigrated to the United States. On June 22, 1974, he married Chinnamma Mathai in Queens, New York. While in New York, he worked in insurance sales for the John Hancock Company. He later moved to Texas in 1979 and worked for 30 years at
the National-Semiconductor Corporation as a senior purchasing manager. He spent most of his life residing in the South Dallas suburbs.
He was a faithful member of !PC Hebron Dallas since its inception in 1986. Throughout the years, he served in many leadership roles including board member, elder, treasurer, secretary, and missions coordinator among others. However, his true passion was pouring into young people as a Sunday School teacher. He spent many years investing in the spiritual growth of the church and felt great peace in the presence of God with his fellow believers. He was also very passionate about mission work in India. Since 2015, he served as the Joint Secretary of the
!PC Northern Region Bihar Mission. He gave sacrificially of his time and resources for this ministry and many others.
On January 16, 2022, Pappy Johnson went home to be with the Lord after a difficult battle with cancer. He was confident that the Lord that he served in his life would welcome him home upon his death. He was surrounded by his wife and children as he took his final steps into the presence of the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Chinnamma Johnson; his sons, Stanley Johnson and Steve Johnson; his daughter, Rachel Joseph and son-in-law, Joshua Joseph; his grandsons, Daniel and Micah Joseph; his brother, Pappy George; and sisters, Thankamma George and Amminikutty John.
