Mary Lee McCoy was born September 6, 1929 in Greenville, Texas to Jesse Byron Faulkner and Allie Mae Brown Faulkner. She died Sunday April 23, 2023 at the age of 93.
She graduated from Greenville High School 1945 and received a Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Education from East Texas State Teachers College, now Texas A & M Commerce.
She married James W. McCoy May 31, 1950. They were both educators and taught in the Ennis and Mesquite Independent School Districts. They were married for 36 years.
Mary Lee was a life -long learner and supporter of public education. During her career she served as teacher, counselor and principal. She retired in 1992 as principal of Shands Elementary in Mesquite. She was one of the first female principals in the history of the Mesquite Independent School District.
A devout Christian, Mary Lee was a member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church from 1971 until her death. Her faith and beliefs were unwavering. She openly shared her faith and lived her life based on the Christian principals of loving God and your neighbors as yourself.
Mary Lee led a very social life and was involved in her community through her school activities as well as being a member of Mesquite Woman's Club, Triskelion, Chancey Book Review, Mesquite Arts Council and Mesquite Association of Retired School Employees.
She loved and was loved deeply by her family. The cherished birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas will always be cherished memories. Her art for hospitality, a perfect table setting with crystal, china and sterling silverware, along with her signature Southern cooking made from scratch will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Edward Byron (Bobby) Faulkner.
She is survived by daughter, Kay Qualls and husband Scott of Rockwall; son James Byron McCoy and wife Deah of Lake Highlands - Dallas; grandchildren Amanda App and husband Greg; Aubrey Madsen and husband Conrad; Kent McCoy and wife Carly; Caleb McCoy and wife Katherine; and Katherine McCoy. Mary Lee's great grandchildren include Henry App, Palmer and Conrad Madsen IV, Brooks Byron and Brady Kent McCoy. She also is survived by a host other relatives.
There will be public visitation on Friday April 28th from 4:00 until 7:00 at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale. A private family graveside with be held in Greenville the following day. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in her memory to Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church 9810 LaPrada Drive Dallas, TX.
