Everett Floyd Phelps

June 14, 1940 — March 26, 2022

Everett “Floyd” Phelps, 81, of Mesquite, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022. He was born June 14, 1940 in San Angelo, Texas the son of Everett J. and Irene (Bliznak) Phelps.

Floyd graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University. He was the Assistant Director of the Department of Public Safety at Southern Methodist University before retiring. Floyd married Laura Morton on February 3, 1962 and were married for 53 years before her passing in 2015.

He was an active member of Oates Baptist Church. He was an avid writer and published three books. Floyd loved watching movies and had a collection of over 3,000 DVD’s. Upon retirement, Floyd and Laura took over 25 cruises.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jason, Pat and Phil, and two granddaughters, Hannah Rogers and Kristen Gibson.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth and Stacy Herrin-Phelps of Carrollton, Texas, Laura Phelps of Dallas, Texas, Tex Phelps of Mobile, Alabama, and Chris Phelps of Weatherford, Texas, five grandchildren, Sierra and Mike Schonschack of Bradenton, Florida, Michael and Amanda Gibson of Sachse, Texas, Jonathan and Melissa Gibson of Anna, Texas, Brett Edwards of York, Pennsylvania, Andrea Rogers of Hearne, Texas and Nancy Gibson of Bangkok, Thailand. Three great grandchildren, Sarah, Mikey and Darwin. Graveside services will be Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Mesquite City Cemetery with Pastor Jim Burt officiating.
