William “Michael” Smithey passed away suddenly on February 6, 2016.Michael was born in Dallas, Texas on November 28, 1954 to Opal and Bill Smithey and raised in Mesquite, Texas. Michael graduated from Mesquite High School in 1973 and remained a loyal Skeeter fan throughout his life.He received his Associates Degree from Eastfield College in 1976, where he was a part of the drama department and performed in two plays of which he would proudly talk about even in recent days.He wed his wife Janice on July 1, 1979.Michael worked in the oil recovery business for over 30 years, where he was widely known in that industry.He was an avid reader, trivia buff, joke teller (particularly Aggie jokes), and passionate Texas Longhorn fan.He loved spending time with his family, especially his 9 grandchildren, whom he constantly praised and bragged about and to whom he passed down endless childhood stories to.Michael was very well known and respected for the years he devoted to coaching pee wee football in Mesquite.To the hundreds of kids he impacted as the C-Team Vikings head football coach, he was known as “Coach Mike.” Michael is proceeded in death by his parents Opal and William Smithey (aka: Mamaw and Granddaddy), whom he is undoubtedly spending every second with in heaven.He is survived by his wife Janice Smithey of 36 years; his children and their spouses, Heidi and Chris Roberts, Anna and Christopher Smithey, and Ashleigh and Johnny Denney; his siblings and their spouses, Sue and Mike Oliver, and Kathi and Bill Tuttle; his grandchildren, Dylan, Nicole, Britney, Adara, Tesia, Sofia, Tatum, Camden, Lana, and one on the way (Baby Denney); and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Michael’s joyous and humorous personality will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.And his legacy will be carried on by his family, friends, and the many young people in the community whom he impacted. Funeral service for Michael Smithey will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Central Baptist Church, 1749 S FM 148, Crandall, TX 75114.
