The Life of William J. (Dub) Wagner William (Dub) Wagner will always be remembered as a hardworking, lover of his family and especially his love for the Savior Lord Jesus Christ. His brother, Cecil quite often said, No man ever pressed shoe leather any greater than my brother Dub. At 85 years of age, Dub was still very active. While taking care of his wife Katherine, he kept the apartment clean, did the cooking, laundry and grocery shopping. In 1950 as he sat in a service, he was under so much conviction that he wanted Bro. Ingram to quit preaching so he could go forward and get saved. That day he accepted Christ as his Savior Whenever the doors of the church were open, Dub could be found there. He enjoyed gospel music, but often would say, Its the preaching I came for. Every year, Dub would read through the Bible twice. He once stated, How can you read the Bible this often and still find so many GEMS in it? Then he answered himself, Its Gods way of speaking to me. Growing up in Oklahoma, Dub fell in love with farming, which for many years prior to working in the Oil Fields was his livelihood. His children have great memories of their time on the farm and riding the tractor with their dad. Although Dub was not a wealthy man, he would say, Im not wealthy, Im rich! My wife, son, daughter, and grandkids are all saved. How much more could a man want for than this? Dub enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers baseball and the Dallas Cowboys. As a husband, Dub was faithful to his wife for 61 years. Katherine said she always knew that he loved her, provided for her financially but more importantly, spiritually. Daily, he read the Word of God to her, prayed and kept the family in church. As a daughter, Kathy remembers her daddy with loving memories and having a wonderful and blessed childhood. She spent many hours riding a tractor or traipsing through the fields behind her dad while he irrigated. They were not rich in money, but they were rich in love. What a privilege to have a godly father! His grandchildren will always remember their granddad in his overalls, with pencils, pens, and his glasses case sticking out of his pocket. He would tease them with his false teeth, taking them out asking if they wanted to wear them for a while. They remember his affection for them, singing old hymns and songs to them, and eating a bowl of ice cream before bedtime; but especially enjoyed listening to him pray. The great grandkids affectionately called him Aha. He was always coming up to them in his singsong voice and saying aha! They all loved him dearly. Dub is preceded in death by three people he loved very dearly " his mother and father (Cecil and Stella Wagner) and his son Johnny Ray Wagner. One can only imagine the great time that they are enjoying today. He recently said, I am going to get to see my Savior face to face real soon! As a family, they wish there was the opportunity for all of his siblings, family members and friends, to help write these thoughts about someone they loved so dearly. If there was one word to describe Dub, Daddy, Granddad, Aha, and W.J. it would be FAITHFUL. The Lord says in Proverbs 20:6-7, Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
