Wilfred “Cotton” Holmes Everett, also known as“Gramps”, was born March 25, 1928 in Lake Victor, Texas and passed from this life December 13, 2021, at the age of 93 yrs. He was the son of James Walter Everett, Jr. and Lennie Mae Cox Everett. Cotton was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn, his mother & dad, sisters Laverne Hockridge, Lyska Everett, Sybil Wyatt, younger brother Alvis Everett, son-in-law Charlie Palmer, and great-grandson Jett Dyer Lowe. He is survived by his daughter Paula Palmer, sons & daughters-in-law Greg & Ramona Everett, Brian & Diane Everett, and Alan & Diann Everett. He is also survived by grandchildren, Amy & Scott Ferguson, Jill & Jason Daniel, Matthew Everett, Daniel Everett, Emily Everett, Aimee & David Pratt, Stefani Everett, Tiffany Everett, Erinn & Justin Lowe, Travis Everett, Alexis & Mitchell Graham, great-grandchildren Cameron & Brendon Ferguson, Luke, Madelyn, Ryan & MaKenzie Everett, Jaci, Jenna, Jolie & Jackson Daniel, Wesley, Colton & Peyton Evelyn Graham and Jamison Lowe, with another Lowe baby boy on the way. Cotton is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.
Cotton was a Christian man, a loving husband & “daddy”, a mentor, and a role-model. He was privileged to serve the church as a Bible class teacher, a deacon, an elder, but more importantly, as a servant. Cotton & Evelyn are former members of the Centerville Road Church of Christ and they both passed from this life as long-time members of the Mesquite Church of Christ. He taught his children that in whatever they did, to be the best they could be. He was a perfectionist – many times he gave the impression, “it was his way or the highway”. He was employed by Levy & Son for more than 50 years and was proud to serve as a vice-president of the company.
With the help of The Lord, Cotton has survived a number of serious health issues the past 30 years. After the death of his wife, Evelyn, he has lived the past 4 years with a “hole in his heart”, never failing to mention her every day in his conversations with family and friends. Cotton & Evelyn are once again together. Special recognition is due Natalie Milas and the loving caregivers at Notice Care Homes here in Mesquite for the tender loving care they have provided Cotton the past 1 ½ years. Thanks be to God for this good man and the talents he used to serve Jesus!
