He was born Valentine’s Day of 1932 to E.A. “Lonnie” and Gertha Barnard Player in Paris, Texas. Wayne started working in 1943, at age 11, as a Paris News paperboy at Camp Maxey Army Camp. He progressed to paper route, mail room, apprentice printer, and finally Journeyman printer until he left Paris to print for the Dallas Times Herald in 1960. He graduated high school in 1949, enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 1951, and married his high school sweetheart Bettye Carmen Young on May 19th, 1951, in Oceanside, California. By that September, he was in Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, of the 1st Marine Division fighting at the Battle of the Punchbowl in Korea. Firing primarily 81mm mortars, his most intense fighting was for hills 749,812, and 884. He made rank of sergeant and became mortar unit leader. After returning stateside, he was live weapons instructor until his discharge in 1954. In 1960, he graduated from East Texas State College with a B.A. in Industrial Arts. He was hired in 1961 as an entry-level extrusion operator by Howmet Aluminum Products in Dallas, Texas. By the time he left in 1980, he was Manager of Product Development and Engineering in Mesquite, TX. He was in charge of any new products upstart from design through the initial production lay-out and set-up, and finally to full production approval for all three national branch plants. He started his own business, Custom Roll Form Inc., that same year, manufacturing steel components in Farmersville, TX, He later built a building in Rockwall, TX housing the 42-year-old family company today. He never retired and was still doing light office work until he died. Wayne and Bettye had two sons. Michael Wayne was born in 1957 in Paris, TX and Timothy Jay was born in 1969 in Dallas, TX. They were married for 45 years until her death in 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents (1979 & 1994) and his Mother and Father in law G.T. and Victorene Fitch Young (1962 & 2008), brother-in-law Jim Haddock (2012), brother Sam (2019) & Darlene (1980). He survived by his older sister Evelyn Haddock of Rockwall, and her daughters Vickie, Glenda, and Teri (Joe). Oldest son Michael and wife Rhonda and Michael’s daughters Tonya, JaNae, and Michaela. Youngest son Timothy and wife Shari and their son Brenden. Sam’s daughters Kari and Kelly, and Sister-In-Law Gwen.
