Vernon "Dee" Drummond

November 24, 1935 — September 5, 2007

Dr. Vernon "Dee" Drummond was born in Northeastern Missouri on November 24, 1935 and passed away suddenly on September 5, 2007. He was a graduate of Unionville High School.While earning his undergraduate degree at Northeast Missouri State University he taught high school math and biology in Knox City, graduating in 1959.In 1963 he earned his degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by one year of internship. Dr. Drummond moved to Mesquite in 1964 where he practiced medicine and general surgery until his retirement in December 2005.Before leaving the hospital setting in 1978 he had delivered over 1,300 babies. After retiring from his clinic, Dr. Drummond continued to work for the State of Texas Worker's Compensation Program. His enjoyment outside of practicing medicine was farming.As a physician, he always put his patients first.He was a model father and family mand and had many dear friends who will miss him dearly. Preceded in death by parents Zachariah Denton and Delma; brothers Edwin, Larry, Gwendal and Kenneth.Survivors: fiance Deborah English, son Mark and his daughter Elizabeth, daughter Julie, her husband Dr. Michael Walker and their son Bradley, daughter Lisa Edwards and her son Chad, son John, his wife Karona and their children Jonathan and Karissa.Siblings: Christine Elyard of Green City, Mo., Clarene Rhoads, of Liverty, Mol, Burdess Drummond of Ottumwa, Ia., Lorene Roseberry of Gladstone, Mo., Dorothy Mendenhall, of Knoxville, Ia., Jeanie Brown of Fort Worth, Tx., and Richard Drummond of Green Castle, Mo., and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, September 7, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas. Services will be on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church, 3018 N. Belt Line Road, Sunnyvale, Texas.
