Verda Naomi Taylor McCoy was born in Cooper, TX on November 21, 1931 to Tommie and Callie Taylor and passed from this life in her home on December 4, 2020 and the age of 89.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her Husband, Wesley Preston McCoy who passed in September of 2017 after celebrating 68 years of marriage.
Verda is survived by her three children Cindy McCoy (Ruidosa, NM), Terry McCoy (Mesquite), Alaina and Chip Nelson ( Richardson); three grandchildren: Adam Huttash and wife Carolina (Dallas), Natalie Freeman and husband Mike (Wills Point), Hannah Nelson (Richardson) and
her two close Chihuahua companions, Hope and Baby. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Verda McCoy spent her time serving her family as her three children were in school and college for a span of 30 years, each having their first 5 years at home alone with their Mother before starting school. Verda enjoyed her years of teaching Sunday School at Piedmont Assembly of God where many children passed through her class and many other classes of dedicated teachers in that church. She loved to garden, cook, bake, sew and nurture her plants. She had a passion for beautiful fabric to create clothing as well as window treatments. She made her daughters wedding
dresses, costumes for kids and grandkids and many “Easter” dresses, Bridesmaids dresses and anything else that was needed. She kept a garden for years that produced enough vegetables to feed the neighborhood. She was there as a PTA room mother and then became the
chauffeur to church events, skating rinks, birthday parties, etc. She and her chihuahua’s nursed grandkids back to health many times on her couch with love and food.
She took a position with Harty’s Printing in Pleasant Grove in 1976 where she “took ads” by phone on Mondays to be published in The Shopping News each Wednesday. She held that one day a week position for over 25 years. Verda was a “Momma”, a “Granee” and a “GiGi” and a wonderful Mother in Law. She kept a great attitude through years of health issues that in the medical world “should” have taken her.
She knew she had purpose and she lived that purpose and enjoyed it until the end of this life.
She will be forever missed!
