Troy E Mathis

Troy E. Mathis Sr, a veteran of Vietnam and longtime resident of Mesquite, went to his heavenly home on January 8, 2023. Troy was born October 25, 1940, to Henry and Rosie Mathis and attended Maud High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Linda (Hiegert) Mathis on November 7, 1964. He proudly served the Army for 20 years and retired as a food service manager with the rank of Sergeant First Class. The U.S. Army recognized Troy for his honorable service with a Purple Heart, specifically for his service in Vietnam. He was also honored with the National Service Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars. After his retirement from the Army, Troy and Linda owned and operated a trucking business for 13 years. Troy was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family and his church. He faithfully served in churches in Germany, Oklahoma and Texas, serving as a deacon at Gethsemane Baptist for 13 years and at Longcreek Baptist for 15 years. Troy was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Evelyn and 2 brothers, Richard and Ronald. He is survived by his wife Linda, sons and daughters in law, Troy, Jr and Linda Mathis, Robert and Michelle Mathis, grandchildren, Rachel, Monica and Daniel, and great grandchild, Seth, brothers Cecil, Dennis, and Donald and many nieces and nephews. Troy was one of the kindest souls on the planet, he was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a true role model who we will always look up to. The memorial service to honor Troy's life and military service, will be held at Long Creek Baptist Church on January 14, 2023, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any military charity in his name.
