Jim had four siblings " Isadora (Chila), Lucy (LuLu), Andrew (Andy) and Aurora (Chulo). Growing up, he spoke of their family not having much, as they traveled around working on farms in the Midwest. He said although they lived modestly, they were happy because they had each other. With the onset of World War II, at age 16 Jim was eager to enlist in the U.S. Navy, only to learn that he had to wait until he was 17 years old with the permission of his parents. He proudly served in the Navy from September, 1942 to February, 1946. He served on the U.S.S. Fanshaw Bay, and fought courageously when his ship was under attack in the South Pacific during 1944. In 1949, Jim married his beloved sweetheart, Maria Antonia Toni Enriquez. In his career, Jim worked as a photographer, a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and was a dealer in the service station business for Shamrock, Amoco, and Exxon. Jims passion was playing golf, and was always insistent on walking the golf course " didnt like riding the golf cart. He also loved playing the Lotto. Once, he hit five out of six numbers, and was always convinced he had a good chance to hit the big one . Jim and Toni were blessed with three children, Jimmy, Carmen and Johnny; son-in-law Bruce (Bruiser) and daughter-in-law Rhonda; eight grandchildren Sabrina, Jamie, Jennifer, Nick, Meghan, Kyle, Joshua, Tori; and one great-granddaughter, Brittney. He was also blessed with many nephews and nieces who love him dearly. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he was adamant he did not want any chemo or radiation treatment. He said he would play the hand he was dealt . At this point, he was tired of doctors and hospitals " he faced it with courage. Jim was blessed to have had the opportunity to receive spiritual blessings and Holy Communion by his pastor and friend, Father Anibal Adorno. At the end, he was at peace and longed to be with those that preceded him in death " his sweetheart Toni, his parents, brother Andy, and sister Chila. On Sunday, August 23, 2009, he went home to be with our Lord, and his family. Jim will always be remembered by the words he lived by, dont buy all that you want, buy just what you need .
