Thomas "Jack" Jackson Travis

Saturday morning Forney lost a faithful and devoted member of its community after a courageous one-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Jack was born in Alma, TX August 17, 1929, and after many years in Dallas, moved to Forney in 1994 with his wife Betty. Married 62 years, they raised a loving and close-knit family. He was the owner of Travis Paper Co. and ran the day-to-day operations until semi-retiring in 2000. However, it was his life outside of work that kept his childhood spirit alive. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Forney and loved to play dominos. You could often find him at the senior center playing several days a week. He played every chance he had and often beat most players that sat down to challenge him. Jack loved to travel with his wife Betty and was known to pick up at a moments notice and go anywhere he felt drawn to. Sometimes they would jump on a cruise or sometimes head to a vibrant city - further demonstrating their love for living life to its fullest. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Minnie and son Jerry Dale Travis. He will be remembered by his wife Betty and their four children: son Dennis and wife Karen of Richardson, daughter Sonta Chambers of Froid, Montana, son Ronnie and wife Laura of Mesquite, and daughter Tammy John and husband Michael of Rockwall. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, his sisters Annell Pearson and Barbara Hinkle, and brother Robert Sonny Travis. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Baptist Church of Forney or Pleasant Hills Childrens Home of Fairfield, TX. Service will be 2:00PM Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Forney, 1003 FM 741, Forney, TX. 75126. Visitation will be Monday evening at New Hope Funeral Home from 6:00PM " 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Forney.
