Sylvia Ann Cantu

Sylvia Ann Cantu, age 71, of Dallas, TX, passed away May 20, 2020. She was born February 10, 1949 in Dallas to Juan Velia Padilla and Sylvania Shoemaker Padilla. She married Gustavo Cantu on July 22, 1975 in Glen Rose, TX. She worked for the Dallas County Juvenile Department for 20 years, retiring in 2011. She lived her life for her children and grandchildren. She loved supporting her grandchildren by attending all their sporting events. She had a passion for fashion, as well as dancing. You could always find her on the dance floor at family functions, with her favorite being the electric slide. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Juan and Sylvania, and a sister, Delores Rodriguez. She is survived by her husband of almost 45 years, Gustavo; children, Gustavo Cantu Jr and wife Rosalinda of Mesquite, Christie Cantu and fiance Mike Ramirez of Rockwall and Jesse Vargas and wife Erica of Dallas; grandchildren, Aryana Cantu, Elijah Cantu, Naudia Cantu, Alyssa Vargas and Eliana Vargas; great-grandson, Malachi Vargas and great-granddaughter, Amariah Pedraza; sisters, Vera Marquez, Mary Lou Duran, Rebecca Saucedo and Susie Maldonado; and a host of nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30-10:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at New Hope Funeral Home under the east Porte Cochere. Funeral Services will follow at 10:00 AM at the same location. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of New Hope Funeral Home.
