Shirley Ann Hemby (Carver, Mills) born February 6,1936 in Terrell, Texas passed away in the early morning hours of January 28, 2024, at the age of 87.
Shirley is survived by devoted son, David Mills (wife, Pamela) of Mesquite, Texas; Sister, Becky Linebarger (husband, Donny) of Arlington, Texas; Daughter-in-law, Diane Mills of Kemp, Texas. Grandchildren: Donnetta Allen, Tammy Oldfield, Jennifer Phillips (husband, Jason), Monica Jackson, Roger Dale Spakes (wife, Tamara), John Spakes (wife, Kristen), Andrew Mills (wife, Maria), and Amanda Braddy (husband, Josh). Nieces: Vicki Barnes, Lori Brady, Amy Linebarger, and Cindy Bos, and nephews: Ty Carver, Stacy Turner and Danny Turner along with several others. Shirley was also blessed with seventeen great and five great-great grandchildren, of which she was exceptionally proud.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Lorene (Stoy) Carver of Terrell, Texas; husband, John Mills; sister, Frances Turner; brother, Leslie (Peanut) Carver, Jr.; daughter, Saundra Hughes; son, Steven Mills; second husband, Alvin Hemby; and great granddaughter, Hailey Oldfield.
Shirley spent her working years at Sears in Dallas, TX where she made a lasting mark on her coworkers. After retirement, Shirley dedicated her life to serving her family and her church, which she did with love, grace, and a lot of prayer. She was a loyal member at Sunnyvale Baptist Church where she made life-long friends in the Omega Sunday school class. Shirley found great joy in serving others throughout her church and her community. She spent the final years of her life at Colonial Lodge Assisted Living in Terrell, Texas where she was a beloved friend and resident. She was truly the embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman.
Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her memory will be forever cherished.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home at 500 US 80, Sunnyvale, Texas 75182. A graveside ceremony will follow at Oakland Cemetery at 1000 W Moore Ave, Terrell, Texas 75160.
