Flossie (Sandy) Poe Jan. 4, 1932 March 11, 2003 Flossie (Sandy) Poe, age 71, accomplished Mom and Mamaw, went home on Tuesday, March 11, 2003, following a courageous battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Preceding her in death were siblings Alfred Eugene Milton (Shorty) Taylor, E.S. Taylor, Ralph Taylor, and Annis Wilkinson. Surviving siblings are Sue Byars and Husband Billy of Dallas and Harriet Carter and Husband Barton of Oklahoma. Sandy was survived by Children, Bill Poe and wife Debbie, Sandra Poe, Sandy Kris Warren and husband Jimmy; Grandchildren, Stephen Baker and wife Linda, Jeffrey Stevens and wife Sheila, Michael Poe (or Smack as dubbed by Mamaw), Joseph Robinson, Jimmy and Kenneth Warren; Great Grandchildren, Kay-lee and Nickolas Baker, Ashley and Hunter Stevens, Megan and Tyler Poe and Special nieces and nephews, especially Renee Byars, who has seen Sandy through to the end. Flossie was born on January 4, 1932, in Sydney, TX, to the late Eugene and Susie Taylor. Even though born with the name Flossie, she much preferred to be called Sandy; I think most of this preference stemmed from the teasing she got from her Chitter, Sue, about being named after the neighbor's milk cow. Sandy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at age 11. She proudly graduated from Sydney High School in 1950 and then on February 22, 1952, she was united in marriage to Alfred A. Chapman Poe, Sr. in Sweetwater, TX. Sandy was always striving to try new things. In 1952, she ran as candidate for County Treasurer in Nolan County. Sandy also loved to sing and participated in community events, which was broadcasted on radio. She was involved with the Golden Gloves with her husband, A.C. Poe and established herself as the first female timekeeper that participated in the sport of professional Boxing. During these years she also achieved her real estate license after attending specialized classes. But let us not forget to mention a secret passion of hers...driving fast. Sandy had many witnesses to her affliction with speed. One time she asked to borrow Stephen's car, a Camaro, to go to the drug store. Stephen threw her the keys and went inside the house. Well a few seconds later you hear the engine roar and tires squealing! Stephen looked out the door and saw a cloud of burned rubber and the car was gone from sight. A.C. yelled into the living room, "See I told you! That boy is always driving too fast and spinning the tires on that car!" At that point, Stephen stepped around the corner and informed his Grandad that the drag racing noises outside came from his wife, not him - only one of many examples of how Sandy enjoyed her time on this Earth. In the years 1952-1959, Sandy built a loving family with A.C., consisting of three children: Bill, Sandra, and Kris. After the birth of her last child, the Poe family moved to Dallas where Sandy and A.C. resided for the remainder of their lives together never forgetting how much they loved each other. Special Thanks to all at Metro East Dialysis Center, Doctors Hospital, and Kindred Hospital for the Love and wonderful care throughout her illness.
