On Tuesday, February 9, 2022, Sandra Blanche Hughes, loving mother, grandmother & great-grandmother passed away peacefully at her home. She was 83 years old.
Sandy was born on May 31, 1938, to Regina and George Rasmussen in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her family relocated to Dallas, Texas when she was 2 years old. After graduating High School, she attended St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing. She decided nursing was not for her and started her career at the Dallas County Court House working in the Central Jury Room. In 1978 she accepted a position as the Administrative Assistant to the 1st Judicial Region where she continued working until she retired in 2012.
In 1959, Sandy married the love of her life, Coach Harold Leonard Hughes. They resided in Mesquite, Texas and started their family. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Trinity & Zion Lutheran Church.
Sandy is proceeded in death by her husband, Coach Harold Hughes, son David Hughes, parents Regina and George Rasmussen and siblings, George Rasmussen Jr, Bob Rasmussen & Shirley Bean.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Skoch (Rob) and Beth Rogers (Mike); 4 Grandchildren Chuck Rogers (Lauren), Summer Rogers (Mark), Jessica Carmickle (Klint), and Eric Skoch; 8 Great-Grandchildren, Gabe, Chelsea, Sara, Parker, Derick, Jadyn, Rayden, and Kolton and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 2:00pm at New Hope Funeral Home located at 500 US-80, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The American Heart Association.
