Samuel Bernard Roberson, a Korean war veteran and consummate family man, passed away on August 20, 2013. He was 83. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ardella Roberson; son and daughter-in-law, Les and Pam Roberson; four grandchildren, Jason and wife Katie, Tara and husband Mark Gaudette, Bradley, Justin and one great-granddaughter Carlie Elizabeth. Sam was born on June 19, 1930 to Ollie and Lula Roberson in Wichita Falls, Texas.He moved to Oklahoma City at the age of twelve.As an early teenager, he played football for Capitol Hill High School and fought in the Golden Gloves as a welterweight. At age seventeen, he joined the Marine Core Reserves and landed in Korea in 1950 as part of the 20th Infantry Battalion to fight in the Korean War.In 1952, Sam was honorably discharged as a corporal. After moving back to Oklahoma City, Sam met the love of his life, Ardella, and they were married December 18, 1954 at a small Church of Christ Church on Southwest 53rd and Blackwelder in Oklahoma City.In 1957, the couple bought a house and had the first of two boys that were two years apart, Douglas Bernard and Lesly Alan. Sam had a long and successful career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T.In 1980, Sam took a promotion with the company, and moved to Dallas, Texas with Ardella, where they have been residents for over 30 years and longtime members of Skillman Church of Christ. Sam’s wonderful sense of humor, love for country music, and enormous heart will be greatly missed. Family requests that memorials be made to Skillman Church of Christ, memo to Mission Fund/Roberson.Funeral services will take place Friday 8-23-13 atSkillman Church of Christ, 10:00am.Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City Friday afternoon.
