Obituary-Sammie Marie Cooper Johnson Sammie Marie Cooper Johnson was born May 9, 1919 in Irving, Texas to Sam Henry Cooper and Maudie Mae Carroll Cooper and ended her earthly journey on April 9, 2014, one month shy of her 95th birthday. She spent her life in the Dallas area, attending North Dallas High School, then raising her daughter, Kay, with her husband Jimmie Johnson in the Casa View and Mesquite areas.Over her life she was employed at Sears on Ross in the millinery department selling hats and then later worked for American Title until she retired.She loved her family and cherished every minute spent with her daughter, her son-in-law, Billy and grandchildren and great grand-children.As soon as her first grandchild, Dawn, could talk she became known as “MIMI” to all close to her.She cherished her Iowa family-her pen-pal of 75 years Helen and all of her family, and loved to visit them regularly.She served many years in the Eta Alpha chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha and loved her 1919er group and their yearly reunions. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, grandson, Sean Coles, and great grandson Ethan Sean Coles. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Johnson Kirby, son-in-law, Billy J Kirby Jr. of Frisco, TX Granddaughter Dawn Holley, great grandson Taylor Sean Holley, great granddaughter, Morgan Dawn Holley of Mesquite, TX; Granddaughter in law-Cindy Tucker, granddaughters Hope and Hannah Coles of Frisco, TX; Grandson and granddaughter -in-law Michael and Carolyn Kirby, great grandson Justin Kirby and great grand-daughter Kennedy Kirby of Mansfield Texas; Granddaughter and grand son-in-law Christy and Scott Johnson, great-grandsons Christian Arnold and Logan Johnson of Mansfield, TX. The family wishes to thank the staff at Doctors Healthcare who cared for her over the last years of her life and Hospice Plus and No Place Like Home who provided some comfort in her last days. Graveside services will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest, Garden of Trees on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 PM. The family has been greatly impacted by dementia, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and would appreciate any donations to support research into or provide care to those touch by these conditions in Sammie’s name.
