Ruth Day Narramore

May 31, 1925 — August 6, 2020

Ruth Day Narramore, age 95, of Mesquite, TX. passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020. She was born May 31, 1925 in Muskogee OK to James Lee Floyd Day and Ollie May Bell Vanzant Day.

After many years as a stay at home wife and mother, Ruth worked in the medical field for hospitals and doctors. After retirement, she and her husband, Johnny Pence Narramore, moved to Gun Barrel City, TX where they enjoyed living on Cedar Creek Lake for over 25 years. During that time, she resumed painting which was her passion and became president of the local art club. In all, she painted for over 45 years and received many awards, ribbons, and accolades.

On July 27, 2011, Ruth lost her beloved husband, Johnny, at the age of 90, to heart disease. They were married on July 5, 1945 – only 5 days after they met -- and were married 66 years when he passed. Ruth was the love of his life, and he was her hero. Ruth never gave up painting even after entering a nursing home, but this time she prayed that if God would let her paint again, she would give them to others to show His love. In the past 5 years, she has given away hundreds of paintings – all received with joy and appreciation.

Ruth was also preceded in death by three siblings: Hazel Day Reeves, Floyd Day Jr, and Paul Day.  Paul’s widow, Telitha Kirkwood Day, is Ruth’s dearest friend and has been like a sister all these years. She resides in Broken Arrow, OK. Ruth is survived by daughters, Fairy Cooper and Debbie Aleman and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Johnny Cooper, Jennifer Salazar and husband Tito, Stephanie Aleman, and Joshua Aleman and wife, Holly; great-grandchildren, Aiyana Brown, Hudson Castillo, Daniel Aleman, Finley Cooper, Daniella Salazar, and Garrison Aleman; plus numerous beloved nieces and nephews on both the Day and Narramore sides of the family.

A “Drive-By” visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday evening, August 10, 2020 at New Hope Funeral Home under the Porte Cochere on the east side of the building. For the safety of everyone, the family requests everyone remain in their cars and greet the family from there as you drive through. A private funeral service will be held at a later date and time.

If desired, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to Creek Crossing Harvest Church, 124 West Davis St., Mesquite TX 75149.
