Royce Holland Duke of Quinlan, born February 6, 1937 in Forney, TX. passed away September 2, 2005 in Dallas, TX. How does one write an obituary for a hero? Not a hero that the world has heard of, but one who quietly touched everyone he met.One who served his country's Air Force for twenty-two years, including three tours in Viet Nam, which earned him numerous commendations including the Air Medal. One who honored his wife by marrying her and loved her every day of that marriage. One who revered and loved his children unconditionally and equally. One who gave abiding faithfulness and kindness to his siblings and parents and constant loyalty to his friends.Royce was a beautiful man, and nothing written here can capture that beauty. He was smart and funny, wise and warm to the core. In his short sixty-eight years in our world, Royce hurt no one until today when he left a void in our hearts that only the joyous days of our reunions can fill. His wife, children, siblings, grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends take this last heartbreaking opportunity to thank him for a life humbly and hugely lived. Royce is survived by wife, Carolyn; children, Cindy (Joe) Ruiz, Steve Duke, Emmett (Monica) Duke and Connie (Jason) Palisin; sister, Gail Johnson and husband David; brother, Roger Richman; six grandchildren, father, J. B. (Marie) Duke; numerous other family members and countless friends. He was preceded in death by a beloved son, Dwayne Duke; stepfather and mother, Bondie & Marie Richman and other members of his large circle of family and cherished friends. Our world is a poorer and darker place today. What a privilege it was to know him. What a prince God has chosen.
