After the Army, Roy was hired at John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. He retired from John Deere after 30 years. During that time, he was a member of the UAW Local 838. When Roy moved to Texas, he brought his 1987 Harley Davidson Softail motorcycle. He loved being on the winding country roads going through the small towns of east Texas. We would often go on day trips on the bike. He also loved SCUBA diving. He became Open Water certified, and didn't stop there. He took all the courses up to and including Rescue Diver. He was a trained First Responder, and his next step was to become a Master Diver. He was at his happiest when he was "getting wet". Never did he come out of the water with anything but a huge smile on his face.
