Roy G. Potter It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Roy Glen Potter of Sunnyvale, Texas.Roy passed unexpectedly Friday, June 27, 2014 at the age of 76. Roy Potter was born November 3, 1937 in Bogota, Texas to Howard Potter and Jimmie (Aldridge) Potter.He was the oldest of three siblings and will forever be “big brother”. Roy graduated class of 1956, Bogota High School.He played high school football, basketball, was a member of FFA and grass judging team.Reflective of his personality, he was voted senior class favorite.Growing up in East Texas, he developed a love for hunting and fishing that endured his entire life. Roy married Shirley Ann Duncan December 15, 1961 and they enjoyed each other for over 52 years of marriage.They were love birds from the beginning and will always be. Roy retired after over 30 years of service with Western Electric/AT&T as a PBX installer.He installed the phone systems in countless high rises in downtown Dallas.After retirement, he worked at the family business, Duncan’s.He so enjoyed the relationships he had with each customer and he called all of them friends.He loved talking with each one, especially if it was a conversation that involved the Rangers, Cowboys or Mavericks.Roy was the greatest Texas Rangers fan.In the early 70’s, before the Ranger’s games were televised, he would listen to every broadcast on the radio. Everyone that ever met Roy Potter would use the same words to describe him.He was the nicest guy.His life is proof that nice guys don’t finish last.He had a great life, and he enjoyed every minute of it.For those that knew Roy, don’t be sad, because where he is, the Rangers won the World Series! He is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Jimmie Potter.He is survived by his wife, Shirley Potter.His children, Jimmy Blankenship, Tawny Blankenship (Larry Pinckert) and Kimberly Meara (Thomas Meara).His grandsons, Travis Blankenship, Tommy Meara, Jr., Duncan Meara, and Lance Meara.He is also survived by his brother Carlus Potter (Corine Potter), sister, Teneka Sansom (Robert Sansom), sister-in-law Audrey Grisham and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 3-4:30 at New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, TX.Graveside immediately following.
