Roy B. Brooks

September 11, 1924 — July 20, 2020

On July 20, 2020, Heaven erupted into a glorious celebration when the good and faithful servant, Roy B. Brooks, entered the gates of glory. Awaiting his arrival, with outstretched arms was his Lord and Savior. Roy was also greeted by his loved ones who have gone before him: his wife, Mable Lois; his 3 sons, Roy Glenn, Joe Dennis and Jimmy Scott; his mother and father, as well as his 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Roy was the 4th of 9 children born to Ernest and Myrtie Brooks on September 11, 1924, in Laneville, Texas. He was raised with strong Christian values in a loving home.

When Roy married Mable Lois on October 2, 1944, after meeting on a blind date, they committed their 69-year marriage to these same values. He remained by her side until she passed in 2013.

Roy was a proud Veteran, having served in WWII in the 627th Field Artillery Battalion attached to General Patton’s 3rd Army. He received a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Ribbon, an Overseas Service Bar, and an Army Occupation Ribbon, Germany.   When he returned home from the war in 1946, he worked at a gas station in Henderson, Texas, and then purchased the station, which he owned until he had an opportunity to work at Lone Star Steel.

Roy always aspired to be in law enforcement. In 1958, he moved his family to Mesquite, Texas, and began his career with the Dallas Police Department, retiring in 1980. During his career as a police officer, he won Officer of the Year.

After he retired from Dallas PD, Roy worked as a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff until his retirement in 1994.

Roy and Lois were always active church members, and they found their church home at Mimosa Lane Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Bible Study. He took great pride in his church home and had many wonderful relationships within his church family.

Roy Brooks lived his life as Christ-like as any man could, having been able to see his father set this example all those years ago. Roy’s ability to endure the suffering and loss in his life when he buried his sons and his wife may have derailed him for a bit, but because of his complete trust in God’s plan over his life, he was steadfast in his faith. As a matter of fact, it was those moments in his life that strengthened his faith and gave his testimony such divine power. When he spoke of the Lord, he spoke with such confidence of His truth. Roy spoke often in these latter years about being reunited with his loved ones and how he was ready to see Jesus. It was this confidence in Christ that gave him his source of strength.

He was a man that demonstrated respect, patience, love, and humor (he had a great sense of humor).    He loved his family more than anything. He thought of his friends as an extension of his family.

Roy leaves behind his daughter, Debra, and son-in-law, Rickey; grandchildren, Tracy and Reno Romo, Rickey “Joe” Shew; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Holden, and Heath Brooks Ruppert, Hadley and Harper Shew; his great-great grandson, James Grey Ruppert.

“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived.” – General George Patton
