BARNES, Rosa Lillyam Arce of Managua, Nicaragua, born February 7, 1927, passed away February 24, 2008 in Dallas, Texas. Rosa Lillyam grew up in Nicaragua as one of the oldest of a large family.The family struggled to make ends meet, yet she continued studying hard in the evenings while she worked at the Baptist Hospital in Managua.When she was 26, she was awarded a scholarship to study radiology in Veracruz, Mexico.After she finished her studies, she came to Dallas to do her residency.She met George A. Gray, Jr. at First Baptist Church Dallas, and they were married in 1959.They had a daughter, Mirna Deborah in 1962.For many years she worked as a radiologist at Terrell State Hospital. After a divorce, Lillyam moved back home to Nicaragua.She was an entrepreneur in the tourism business and had found her niche working with her daughter as owner of a hotel, until the civil war forced them to move back to Dallas in 1979.She once again worked as a radiologist. Lillyam married Truett M. Barnes in 1982.Always travelling back and forth to Nicaragua, in 1999 she decided to extend the familyby adding an adopted daughter, Liliana Cristina, also born in Nicaragua.Liliana is now 10 years old. Lillyam was a determined and independent woman who lived her life struggling and overcoming odds.The Lord blessed many people, including her family, through her.Most of her family now lives in the Dallas area.She was the "pilgrim" of the Arce family.Her strong character served well in the leadership role that she had in the family.We will all miss her. She fought her last battle against lung cancer and lived far longer than her doctors predicted.During her painful days before death, she rejoiced reciting Bible verses and singing praises to the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents Gilberto Arce and Delfa Montenegro;and by her siblings, Luisa Emilia, Alfonso, Gilberto, Julia Delfa, Isaias and Ana Julia. Survived by husband, Truett M. Despues de un divorcio, Lillyam se mud de nuevo a Nicaragua. Empez su propio negocio en turismo y encontr su lugar trabajando con su hija como duea de un hotel, hasta que la guerra civil las oblig a mudarse nuevamente a Dallas en 1979.Otra vez trabaj como radiloga. Lillyam se cas con Truett M. Barnes en 1982. Siempre viajando ida y vuelta de Nicaragua, en 1999 decidi extender la familia agregando un hija adoptada, Liliana Cristina, tambin nacida en Nicaragua. Liliana tiene hoy 10 aos. Lillyam era una mujer determinada e independiente quien vivi su vida luchando y conquistando. El Seor bendijo muchas personas, incluyendo a su familia, a travs de ella. La mayora de su familia vive en la ciudad de Dallas. Ella fu la "peregrina" de la familia Arce. Su caracter fuerte le sirvi para el rol de liderazgo que tena en su familia.Todos la extraaremos. Luch su ltima batalla contra el cancer de pulmn y vivi mucho m¡s de lo que predecan los medicos. Durante sus das dolorosos antes de muerte, ella se regocij recitando versculos Bblicos y cantando alabanzas a Dios. Es precedida en muerte por sus padres Gilberto Arce y Delfa Montenegro;y por sus hermanos Luisa Emilia, Alfonso, Gilberto, Julia Delfa, Isaas y Ana Julia. Sobrevivida por su esposo Truett M. Barnes; hijas, Mirna Deborah Balyeat y Liliana Cristina Barnes; hermanas, Lidia Ester Abaunza y Ligia Isabel Harris; nietos, Alicia Marie, Cristina Lee, y David Michael Balyeat;y sus hijastros Timothy and Anthony Barnes.
