In Loving Memory of Rodney G. Price
August 1, 1950 - March 28, 2025
Rodney G. Price, a loving husband, father, Papa, and Vietnam War veteran, passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Brownfield, Texas, on August 1, 1950, Rodney spent much of his life in East Texas. He met Lori, the love of his life, in Longview, Texas, and together they raised their daughter, Erin, and shared nearly 43 years of marriage. In 2008, Rodney and Lori moved to the Forney area to be closer to their grandchildren.
Rodney's life was one of service and dedication. A proud Vietnam War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany and had extended temporary duty assignments in Vietnam. His service was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, and the Sharpshooter Badge. Rodney was proud of his time serving his country and held the rank of Staff Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1978.
After his military service, Rodney became a Master Electrician. He worked for over 25 years at Brown & Root at the Texas Instruments campus, retiring in January of this year. Rodney also pursued his passion for the electrical trade through his own business, Classic Electric, and was known for his attention to detail and integrity in every project. He was one of the last electricians to ensure that the screws on a light switch were vertically aligned just right.
Although he had barely begun to settle into this new chapter, according to Lori, he was getting very good at running errands, grabbing breakfast, and spending time with his loved ones and newest friends. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Lori, whom he married on April 10, 1982. Rodney was the best dad to his only daughter, Erin Duplissey, and son-in-law Kristopher Duplissey, who he loved like a son. He was also an adoring Papa to his four grandchildren: Blane, Avery, Lydia, and Reid.
Rodney's love for his family was immeasurable, and his grandchildren were the joy of his life. He made a lasting impact on each of them, offering wisdom, comfort, and love in unique ways. His oldest grandson, Blane, considered him his hero and drew inspiration from him, especially as Blane plans to serve in the Air Force-a topic they often bantered about, with Rodney's time in the Army. Rodney shared a special connection with his granddaughters, Avery and Lydia, always offering advice, encouragement, a silly joke, and a listening ear whenever they needed it. To Reid, he was a constant companion, spending countless hours together on lunch dates, shopping trips for toys, and even getting haircuts side by side. He was at Chick-fil-A often enough that he could've been mistaken for an honorary member of a mom's group. Rodney's presence in their lives was always one of love, guidance, and support.
Rodney had a sharp sense of humor and a quiet wit that made everyone around him smile. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. Whether it was enjoying Elvis music, wearing his signature fedora, or finding joy in a pedicure with Lori, Rodney lived life with humility and flair. He took pleasure in the little things.
A man of deep faith, Rodney had a special love for the Bible. He was often called upon to share his wisdom and clarify scripture, especially for his grandkids and daughter. In his final days, he even spent time teaching Erin a little German and Lori a bit of Spanish, demonstrating his lifelong love for learning and sharing knowledge. His faith was unwavering, and his family finds comfort in knowing that Rodney is now rejoicing in the arms of Jesus.
Rodney had an ambivalent relationship with his "fur son" Marmaduke and "fur grandson" Cooper. While he would never admit it, his family knows that Rodney was quite fond of them, despite his occasional grumbles. He even shockingly insisted that both Marmaduke and Cooper be in recent family photos, much to everyone's surprise.
Rodney was preceded in death by his brothers Jim, John, and Austin Price; his sister Alyne Reinhardt; and his parents, Martha and Claude Price. His family finds comfort in knowing he was met in Heaven by his in-laws, Charles and Darlene Rickman of Wisconsin, who loved him like a son. If Heaven has a bakery, that's where they are having a slice of pie and maybe changing a lightbulb. He is survived by his loving wife, Lori Price; daughter Erin Duplissey and son-in-law Kristopher Duplissey; grandchildren Blane, Avery, Lydia, and Reid Duplissey; many siblings, as he was one of 11 children; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and extended family members, including his dear niece, Deanne Gibson of New Diana. He is also survived by many members of the Duplissey family, who he considered an extension of his own.
Rodney was a man of faith, family, and service, and his memory will live on through those who loved him. His family finds comfort in knowing that Rodney is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, and they find peace in the words of Revelation 21:4-5 (NIV), which Rodney underlined in his personal Bible:
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!'"
As a tribute to Rodney's service, if in attendance, Blane respectfully requests that those who served in the military wear their dress blues in honor of his grandfather. This request is optional but deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Rodney G. Price Memorial scholarship fund. This scholarship will honor Rodney's service by supporting a student entering the military or joining an ROTC program at a university.
