Robert Howard Pickler

April 25, 1943 — March 22, 2009

Robert Pickler was born on April 25, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee. He moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with his parents as a small child. He attended Catholic school and St. Petersburg High School where he met and eventually married Carlee Mitchell. His college years were spent at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business. After finishing college, Robert and Carlee moved back to St. Petersburg, Florida and became parents to a daughter, Debi and son, Richard. Robert worked as a successful Insurance Underwriter at PBL Insurance Company. In 1974 Robert met Carol Stoddard. They moved to Texas in 1975 and were married in 1976. Robert spent many years as an Insurance Underwriter. He eventually retired his insurance career with Winterthur-Swiss in Dallas, Texas. His years after retirement from the insurance industry were spent enjoying his many home projects. Robert took much pride in his automobiles and tools. His attention to detail was admired by many friends and family members. Robert's "To Do List" was a never-ending challenge and a source of enjoyment as well. Robert and Carol were happily married for 33 years. They truly loved each other, their life together, and their beloved pets. Robert spent many years bravely battling and defeating cancer. His positive attitude and refusal to be defeated allowed him to be a survivor for 14 years. Preceeded in Death By: Father-Jesse "Pick" Pickler, Mother-Katherine "Kaki" Sandmier, Brother-Tom Pickler, Brother In Law-Scott Stoddard, Aunt-Eloise "Biddie" Gray, Uncle-Raymond Gray. Survivors: Spouse: Carol Pickler; Children: Son-Richard, Spouse-David, Daughter-Debi and Son In Law-Ken; Grandchildren: Kelsie and Katie; Cousin's David and Joan Gray; many nieces and nephews with the Gray family. Graveside service will be 1:00PM Thursday March 26, 2009 at New Hope Memorial Gardens, Sunnyvale, TX. Donationsmay be made to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Robert H. Pickler. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
