Robert J. Fertsch, 78, of Garland, Texas, husband of Bettye Fertsch, died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Dallas Mesquite Regional Hospital. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 17, 1937; son of Laura Delores Karp. As a young man he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force in Vietnam and Korea where he also learned a trade as an air conditioning technician. On February 22, 1963, he married the love his life, Bettye. Robert loved to travel and be in the outdoors, often camping with his family and friends. He also enjoyed Bible studies, witnessing to others, and becoming a deacon for his church family. He also volunteered feeding patients at Methodist Hospital. His friendliness and kindness to all people and his devotion to his faith, family and church is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. His inspiring presence will be deeply missed by all of the lives he touched. Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Karp; his brother, Joseph "Tommy" Carter; and his daughter, Laura Fertsch. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 3/4 years, Bettye Fertsch; his children, Robyn Pedroza, Sherri Hardy-Fertsch, and Julia and Michael Coffman; his grand-children, Ramon Fertsch, Justin Fertsch, Andrew Hardy, Ryan Coffman, and Brandon Coffman; and his brother, Norman "Skibow" Fertsch.
