March 4, 1919 – January 8, 2019 Robert Jefferson Dobbs (Jeff) passed away on Monday, January 8th, at the age of 99 in Dallas, Texas. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathleen Williams Dobbs, sisters Inez Dobbs, Minnie Mae Dobbs Millican and Mary Dobbs Stephenson, brothers Felton Dobbs and Earl Dobbs. He is survived by his wife, Addie Lee Dobbs, his sons Robert Dobbs (Becky) and Randel Dobbs (Janna). He is survived by his grandchildren Jeff Dobbs (Brandy), Rusty Dobbs, Sara Campbell (Cody), Andy Dobbs (Carolyn), Megan Meeks (Landry), Molly Pope (Josh), and Melissa Bereuter (Cliff). Great grandchildren Jacob, Jayci, Emily, Davis, Ezra, Georgia, Mara, and Sam. He is also survived by his brother Jack Dobbs (Barbara) and many extended family and friends. Jeff was born in Mart, Texas to Robert Edward and Kathleen Elizabeth Williams Dobbs on March 4, 1919. Both Robert and Kathleen passed away from pneumonia by 1930. During the great depression, family members could not afford to take in additional children, so Jeff and his 2 brothers and 2 sisters were raised at Buckner’s Orphans’ Home on Buckner Boulevard in Dallas. Life at Buckner was difficult and Jeff’s older sister, Inez, passed away from pneumonia at Buckner. The children worked at the dairy and raised crops to support the Home. Christian values, discipline, and hard work were taught at Buckner. After graduation from Buckner, Jeff tried to enlist in the Army, but because of a heart murmur, he was rejected for service. Jeff went to work with his brother-in-law in Mobile, Alabama. When WWII escalated, and the Army drafted him. After the war, he met Addie Lee Ray in Hartselle, Alabama. They married in 1947 and relocated to Dallas, Texas for work. They were married for 71 years and resided in Forney since 1959, where Jeff farmed while working in the sheet metal business in Dallas for 45 years. In 2018, Jeff was recognized for his 70 years of membership in the Sheet Metal Workers Union and for being the oldest World War II veteran in Kaufman County.He and Addie Lee continued to farm and maintain their garden, which was admired by many, until his health recently failed. Jeff was an incredibly hardworking, giving, and humble man who will be greatly missed by those that knew him.
