Robert E. Carathers, of Mesquite, was born September 24, 1947 in Dallas County, Texas, passed away on May 31, 2007. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, John and Bonnie Carathers. Survived by his wife, Margaret Carathers; mother-in-law, Lillie Pack; sister, Rebecca Witzell and husband Fred; daughters, Denise Bennett and husband Breck, Pam Hood and husband David; grandchildren, Chelsey Anderson and husband Nick, and Zachary Bennett; great grandchildren; Madison Anderson, Mason Anderson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Tom and Sue Kay, and Betty Elliott, and Dale and Phyllis Pack and many other friends and relatives. Robert graduated from Mesquite High School in 1966 and attended the University of North TexasHe served in the Army Reserves for 2 years on the SWATteam.He served as a Mesquite Police Officer form September 2, 1970 to November 30, 2002. His hobbies were bicycle riding, photography, guitar, snowskiing, sailing, pilot, water skiing, ranching, travel, motorcycle riding, woodworking, and rodeo bull riding, but most of all he spent his time loving and taking care of his family. Robert had many honors; officer of the year; police sergeant; Vice President of the Police Association; Skeeter Guard; four safe driving awards, three pistol expert awards; five perfect attendance awards; one Certificate of Merit; and two lifesaving awards. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, June 4, 2007 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy 80, Sunnyvale, Texas 75182. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 3, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
