SHUFFLER, Richard Truett of Mesquite, born April 24, 1933, passed away March 14, 2012. Richard graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army from early 1953 until 1955. He reached the rank of corporal and obtained specialties in anti-aircraft, artillery, and automatic weapons. He returned to Dallas after his service. Richard married Mary Hendrick on June 20, 1958. They were blessed with two sons, Keith in 1959 and Terry in 1964. Richard built his career in residential and commercial glass, beginning in Dallas in 1956, continuing in Tyler in 1958, moving on to Ft. Worth in 1966, and then spending the rest of his career back in the Dallas area beginning in 1968. Richard was a proud and outspoken Christian, American, Texan, and Longhorn. He was raised in church and became a Christian as a child. He had been a member of Town East Baptist Church since 1969. He felt honored to be called a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces. He was also a Longhorn since childhood. Richard and Marys first date was actually a Texas football game. When on the rare occasion that Richard would travel out of state he would actually get down and kiss the ground upon returning to Texas and thank the Good Lord for keeping him safe on foreign territory. Richard was very skilled with his hands, just as his father was before him. His craftsmanship is still evident in their longtime home, his workshop, and in many items that he built and sold or gave away. He appreciated the craftsmanship of others and at times through the years had large collections of guns, knives, and tools. He was also often very generous, whether with his collections or with his own creations. Richard loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also at times exhibited the conversational skills of a true fisherman, adding spice and mixing in a few facts to some of his stories.
