Richard W. Meyer was born on August 28, 1946 in Fort Worth. Richard passed away on November 6, 2014. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and US Army veteran. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, and playing with his beloved dog, Tucker. He loved sports, and spent a large part of his life playing, coaching, and umpiring. After serving his country in the Vietnam War, Richard worked for Riddle Leather Sales until starting his company Freedom Leather in Hurst, Texas.When the leather business fell in the mid-eighties, he began working at Mead School and Office Products in Garland, bringing the family to Mesquite.His 20 year career with Mead began as a supervisor and eventually Operations Manager. When the plant closed Richard joined Hunter Panels in Terrell as a Purchasing Agent, where he remained until retirement in 2012. Richard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gloria. Together they created a wonderful family including sons Richard and Mike and their wives Stacy and Sara, his daughter Jill and husband Chris, and his precious granddaughters Alison and Ella. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Walter and Dorothy, and his brother Walter Jr. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 10 at 10:00 am at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale.
