Richard D. Mason

Richard (Dick) Dale Mason was born on October 3, 1939 in Kilgore, TX. The youngest of 5 children he grew up playing sports.After graduating from Kilgore High School he was awarded a football scholarship to Northwestern University in Natchioches, LA. earning a bachelor of science in education degree.He later earned a Master of Education degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.Dick spent his coaching and teaching career traveling across Texas: Nocona, Borger, Electra, Denison, Lubbock, Dallas and retiring from the Mesquite ISD in 1996.After retirement he enjoyed working in the press box at the Friday night high school football games at MISD's Hanby Stadium and traveling with Joan and family members. Dick was a long-time member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joan; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Summer Mason of Rockwall, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Janie Jenkins of Richardson, TX, Harlan and Frances Gilbert of Kingwood, TX, Dale and Linda Gilbert of Arlington, TX. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Mason; sisters, Louise Lambeth and Betty Flannagan; brothers, Bobby Mason and Johnny Mason. Dick "never met a stranger".He was a good friend to many and loved by everyone he knew. He will be missed greatly by all his family and friends.
