On Friday, July 24, 2020, Richard Dean Evans, a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle, passed away at home with his family. Richard’s brave 3-year battle with cancer is now over, and he peacefully rests with The Lord and is reunited with those who have gone before him.
Richard was born on January 22, 1970 in Abington, Pennsylvania to Richard and Frances “Mickie” Evans. Richard graduated from Mesquite High School in 1988 as the class Salutatorian. Richard went on to marry the love of his life, Lora, on October 22, 1993. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Pharmacy on December 21, 1996 with honors. His proudest moment came on March 14, 2005 with the birth of his son Richard Austin Evans.
Richard was a talented artist, exceptional student, and excelled at anything he did. He worked as a pharmacist for Tom Thumb for 22 years and touched the lives of many people through his work. As a young adult, Richard was active in the Mesquite Junior Chamber of Commerce where he served as the treasurer. He loved baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. He enjoyed spending time with family and attending his son’s orchestra and sports events. Richard was a member of Calvary First Baptist Church in Mesquite. He knew God, but most importantly, God knew him.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Richard Davis Evans, and father-in-law Johnny Green.
He is survived by his mother Frances Evans, loving wife of 27 years, Lora Evans, son Richard Austin Evans, brother Steven Evans and wife Shelly, mother-in-law Cathy Green, sister-in-law Emily Ames and husband Mike, two nephews Michael Ames and Dalton Evans, and niece Kaitlyn Ames.
Services for Richard will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, TX on Wednesday, 7/29/2020, at 2:00 PM.
If you would like to make a donation in Richard’s name, in lieu of flowers, Richard’s favorite charities were St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Wounded Warrior Project.
