Rhonda Lee McCoy was born on January 14, 1957, to Raymond and Francis McCoy at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Rhonda gained her Angel wings on September 15, 2022. She grew up in Dallas and the family moved to Irving where Rhonda graduated from MacArthur High School in 1976. Rhonda started working in the medical field with on-the-job training at St. Paul Hospital.
Rhonda moved to Irving Community Hospital in the 80’s and excelled at her job. Her son Shawn was born in 1986 and was an answer to her prayers. It was at ICH where she met the future love of her life.
Teddy Mike and Rhonda were married on February 6, 1989, and with Shawn, their life adventures began. Early on there was a vacation with Chet and Mindy Marder whom she would eventually become an extended member of the Marder Family. The Marders had a young son, Drew that was just older than Shawn. This started over 35 years of travel and vacations together. Matthew came along sometime during one of these vacations? Rhonda finished out her career with Dr. Roger Bick at Presbyterian Hospital where she retired. In 2013 her Grandson Max was born. Max and NeNe were an instant bond. They had a love that was unquestioned and would grow and grow. Mike continued to work for the Irving Fire Department until he retired in 2018. That was when the travels ramped up. Frequent trips to Colorado ended up with purchases of ATVs, 4 wheelers, and of course trailers. Then the 40’ Travel Trailer came along. Rhonda wanted to make sure that the fur babies, Rocky Bobby and Mr. Haunz were always with us. Max was also a frequent flier. The last trip that Rhonda was able to take was to Destin, Florida. It was a gathering of the Jones Family and memories were made. Rhonda never met a stranger. Throughout her life, she was a steadfast example of love, acceptance, giving, and selflessness traits. She would be approached by troubled folks all the time, as they were just drawn to her. She always took the time to listen and parted ways with a hug or a smile. Rhonda had a reputation of making friends feel like family and going above and beyond for everyone she knew or had just met. Our Angel here on earth, her inspiration and selfless ways, will be missed by all who knew her.
Rhonda is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mike. Her son, Shawn, and his wife Ashley, and Grandchildren Cameron, Jessie, and Max. Sister Connie Jones and her husband, Claude. The entire Marder Family and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, Brothers Ronny and Ray.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, Dallas, Texas.
