Randolph Durward Kent, Jr. passed from this life to his heavenly home on January 10, 2016. He was born on October 29, 1923 to Randolph Durward Kent, Sr. and Lynn Moore Kent. He was born and raised in Dallas Texas but attended Mesquite High School where he met his future wife, Hortense Sealy Kent (Tensey). After graduating high school in 1942 he joined the Air Force and served his country in World War II in North Africa and Italy. Upon his return from the war, he and his family formed Kent Oil and Gas and later he became the sole owner of Kent’s Auto Parts. He owned the store until retiring in 1989. Mr. Kent was a descendent of the Elam family and was raised on part of his grandparents’ farm. He attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church all his life and is an Elder Emeritus. His grandparents were charter members of the church when it was formed 139 years ago. He was a hardworking man who earned the love and respect of those who knew him both in business and his church. He is predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Mildred Robinson and Marilynn Crane and his grandson, Jonathan Kent Coulter. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, his son Randy W. Kent and wife Sandy, his daughter Deborah Kent Coulter and husband, John, and five grandchildren, Peter Kent of Florida, Kim Pospisil of Iowa, Keri Hogan of California, Nicholas Coulter of Irving, and Kathryn Canik of Lubbock. He has four great grandchildren. His faith in the Lord and the love of his family were the most important aspects of his life. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, January 13, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy 80, Sunnyvale, TX. Service will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:00PM at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 1324 Pleasant Dr., Dallas, TX 75217. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
