Ranada Day Staggs

Ranada Day Staggs Born July 30, 1954, went home to the Lord on June 2, 2007 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Survived by parents, Chuck and Ida Mae Day; her husband of 29 years, Curtis Staggs; son Eric Staggs and wife Crystal; daughter Paige Brown and husband Michael; grandchildren, Blake Staggs, Krista and Christopher Brown (and one on the way); brother Dr. Craig Day and wife Margie; sister-in-law Margaret Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, along with a host of friends and associates and her beloved pets, Willie and Rocky. Born in Floydada, Texas, after four years she moved to Odessa and lived there for two years before moving to Abilene, where she lived and went to school until graduating from Abilene High in 1972.After graduating high school and attending Texas TechUniversity, Ranada moved to Dallas in 1974, where she met, fell in love with, and marriedher best friend and soul mate, Curtis Staggs, in 1978. After their children were born, Ranada remained a fulltime mom until 1988 when she returned to college and became a sign language interpreter for the deaf which led her into many adventures. Ranada used her interpreting skills in the education field for seven years.She thenmoved into the commercial fieldwhere she interpreted for child-birth delivery and other medical events.She interpreted business meetings forF16 jet engine maintenance, labor negotiations, and for various corporations including Ernst and Young, Southwest Airlines, IBM, Chase Bank, Boeing, UPS and Mary Kay Cosmetics.She also interpreted for the leading talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, when broadcasting from Dallas, and the famous TV game show "Wheel of Fortune". She had her movie debut as an interpreter with Richard Gere, Helen Hunt, and Farrah Fawcett in "Dr. T and His Women". Ranada has been active in Life Community Church of Mesquite/Sunnyvale for 16 years with the youth groups, Sunday School classes, and homecare. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her warm smile, contagious laughter, and "Ranada" stories. Ranada enjoyed many travels and adventures with her husband in various countries andin Hawaii.She also enjoyed her time with family and friends through boating, cookouts, and pool parties.Ranada's favorite times were by the water, whether poolside, lake or beach, with family and friends, a good book and a great glass of wine. Friends, relatives and loved ones will be welcomed for visitation on Tuesday, June 5 from 6 until 8 pm at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, with a memorial service and celebration of her life following at 10 am Wednesday at the same location.Kevin Burke will officiate, along with Bob Parrish interpreting for the deaf. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Life Community Church for the Wedding Gazebo in memory of Ranada Staggs.
