Allen was born and grew up in Pt. Neches, Texas, where his love of football was sparked, and grew into a passion for the sport that lasted his entire life.In high school he played linebacker for the Pt. Neches-Groves Indians, and was proud to be a part of the team that won the State Championship.Then he continued playing football for the Rangers at Kilgore Junior College in Kilgore, Texas, where he was named All District Linebacker. Allen received a B.S. Degree in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin University and a M.Ed. Degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas.His career began at the Denton State School where he was a staff Psychologist.He was involved in developing a grant for Genetics that was funded while he was in Denton. He worked one year for Southwestern Children's Medical Center teaching the health care professionals about working with mentally retarded children. He then returned to Denton and became Director of Community Services at Denton State School. In 1971 Allen accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent at the Richmond State School.In 1976 he was named Superintendent of the San Angelo State School in Carlsbad, Texas.He served twenty-three years as the leader of that facility, and retired in June of 1999.The recreational park that is part of the San Angelo State School, was named Camp R. Allen Williams in his honor upon his retirement. Allen's hobbies included fishing, hunting, gourmet cooking, and in his later years, spectator sports.He always supported his children's involvement in sports with loyalty and gusto.He extended that interest and support to his nephew, son-in-law, grandchildren, and friends' children by attending all kinds of games and events.He helped instill in all young people a love of nature, sports, hunting and fishing. Allen trulytreasured his family; family get-togethers; turkey hunting with a special friend; the hunting lease and all it's members; trips to Colorado to trout fish and socialize with the guys that he loved; and all of Texas Tech's sports. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Regnal and Martha Williams, and his sister and brother-in-law Jerry Sue and Charles Willingham. He is survived by his wife, Pat Williams; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Jeff Jannasch; son and daughter-in-law Chance and Jen Williams; four grandchildren Jack (6) and Jadyn (5) Jannasch; McKenzie (5) and Mia (7 weeks) Williams; sister and brother in-law Barbara and George Schrader; nieces Laurie Meyer, Susanne Reed, Cheryl Zidell and Lora Ewing; nephews Steve Ewing, Michael Zidell, and Eldon Reed; and many other wonderful relatives and friends. An informal Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at 5547 Stone Canyon Drive, Frisco, TX75034.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
