Rev. P. M. Abraham

October 14, 1934 — July 24, 2020

Rev. P. M. Abraham, affectionately called Kunjavarachen, was born on October 14, 1934 as the fourth out of six children to Godly parents, P. M. Mathen & Mariamma Mathen of Puzhayil House in Umayattukara near Kallissery in Chengannur, Kerala, India. He had accepted the Lord as his savior in his teenage years. The Lord called him to ministry in his early 30s while he was working in the Public Health Engineering Department in Alleppey, Kerala.

He married Mary Philip (Molly) from Pallathil House on April 29, 1971 in Alleppey, Kerala. They shared 49 years of blessed married life and raised two sons in a Godly environment. He was ardent in ensuring that his family understood and practiced Godly principles, and led by example in being a caring, loving, disciplined, and self-controlled husband and father.

He loved meeting people and talking with them about their personal lives. He took pleasure in tracing the familial roots of all the people he met and determining whether they were related to him. He relished knowing and spending time with family members.

He loved to make funny quips making everyone around him laugh. Most people who knew him found his infectious smile and cheerful spirit hard to forget. He was quick to forgive everyone and worked diligently to make peace with everyone around him.

The Lord called him to ministry in 1965 and since then has been devoted to serving Him in his full capacity in the St. Thomas Evangelical Church of India (STECI), of which he was an active member from the time of its formation. After graduating from the Union Biblical Seminary, Yavatmal, Maharashtra in 1971, he ministered with his family in many parts of India. He was ordained as a presbyter of STECI in 1985 and served as the Vicar in many parishes.

He was a humble servant of the Lord who served joyfully wherever the Lord put him. He was an example of Christian integrity and faith to whomever had the privilege of knowing him. He always encouraged anyone he came across to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and was steadfast in his hope of eternity.

He moved to the US in 2003 and spent the remainder of his time with his older son and family, with a short period of stay with his younger son and family. He lived his life surrounded by his family and shared many wonderful life-events. He was a wonderful grandfather who loved to make his grandchildren laugh and loved to teach them songs.

He had a blessed and peaceful homegoing on July 24, 2020 with his family gathered around him.

He is survived by his wife Molly, his sons Finney and Denney, his daughters-in-law Shiny and Linda, his five grandchildren, Sneha, Jeremiah, Samantha, Noah, and Timothy, and his younger brother, Jacob Mathew.

While we miss him very dearly, we take comfort in the hope of meeting him again where he has always desired to be, in God’s abode.
