Phillip Dwayne McMahan Born: June 29, 1958 Died: July 4, 2013 Phil was born June 29, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Rodney Lee McMahan and Virginia (Lewis) McMahan.Rodney and Virginia were married in 1944, but didnt have children until Tim was born in 1956, followed by Phil in 1958, and Sherry in 1961. Phils dad Rodney was a Baptist preacher.He pastored several Baptist churches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the 1940s and 1950s.Around the time of Tims birth, Rodneys diabetes-related health problems forced him into less demanding work, but he continued part-time evangelistic preaching until his death in 1961, just 39 years old. Rodneys death left Virginia with three small children approximately 5 ½ years, 3 ½ years, and 6 months of age.She never married again, but with Gods help she did a great job of raising her children in a Christian home. While growing up in the Casa View neighborhood in Dallas, Phil attended Kiest Elementary school, Gaston Junior High, and Bryan Adams High School.During these school years, Phil established many friendships that would last the rest of his life, including those with Paul Hal Hill and David Lytle. While still in his teens, Phil worked as a stocker at Sterling Jewelry and Distributing Co. in Dallas.Other jobs he did in his younger years included landscaping, gas station attendant, and driving a catering truck. Phil married Michelle Lynn Scott on April 5, 1980.Loving and taking care of Michelle would be the driving force in Phils life for the next 32+ years until her death on August 22, 2012.Phil and Michelle did not have children. Michelle encouraged Phil to go back to school and get a college degree.Phil finished his Bachelors degree at the University of Texas at Dallas in 1989.He would spend some years in furniture sales at J. C. Penny, during which he also worked on the Masters degree he completed at The University of Texas at Arlington in 2002. Phils passions included Notre Dame football, conservative politics, the history of our nation, and as his students would learn, his faith in God.Phil became a highly respected Government professor in the Collin County and Dallas County community colleges. Phil also had a passion for real estate which led him to acquire some acreage in Kaufman County, on which he and Michelle lived, and on which Phil placed several mobile homes and rented them out.Michelle called their Kaufman property Phil-ville. He called it Squeezys empire. Squeezy was one of their Pomeranian dogs. Phil had a habit of working outside on the property, mowing, etc. on hot summer days.Neighbors reported seeing him there on July 2nd and 3rd.On July 4, 2013 around 6pm, a neighbor found Phil in his living room recliner.From the evidence at hand, apparently, God took Phil home to heaven as he sat down with a cup of yogurt and some iced tea.The exact time of death is not known and cause of death is still to be determined.Phil was 55 years old. Phil was preceded in death by his parents Rodney and Virginia McMahan, his wife Michelle McMahan, and his father-in-law Ruel Scott. Phil is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Tim and Nancy McMahan, niece Lee Ann McMahan, nephew John McMahan, sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Wilson James, mother-in-law Joyce Scott, brother-in-law Bill Scott, Bills wife Elizabeth Scott , nieces Emily, Rebecca, Shannon, and nephew Dillon, brother-in-law Mark Scott, Marks wife Lori Scott, brother-in-law Gary Scott, sister-in-law Renee Mays, her husband Jody Mays, and numerous aunts, cousins, and other loved ones.
