Mrs. Peggie Mae Haddock crossed over to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 19, 2006.She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 25, 1949, and grew up in Dallas, Texas. Peggie graduated from Kimball High School in Dallas and attended Texas Women's University in Denton.She graduated from vocational school in Dallas and spent many enjoyable years as a nurse's assistant.Taking care of others was her forte, be it patients, friends, or family. Peggie married the love of her life, Dwight N. Haddock. They made their home in the Dallas area but enjoyed traveling and seeing the country on many a long distance trip during his early days as a truck driver.The travel bug stuck with her for the rest of her life and she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.Peggie was also a good golfer, an avid reader, and an enthusiastic supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous.She participated in the AA program for 23 years and she often shared AA's basic principles with others.She was living proof that God - a Higher Power - can instill and sustain sobriety and transform lives. As co-owner of the Crandall Cotton Gin restaurant with her husband Dwight, she enjoyed watching many of the area's youth begin their first jobs at the Gin and grow and flourish into adulthood.She was the biological mother of two beautiful daughters and the surrogate mom to many more.She delighted in knowing the wonderful patrons at the Gin and took pleasure in their enjoyment of a delicious meal.She was also instrumental in helping get the Danielle Dawn Smalley Foundation off the ground and in so doing helped to educate thousands about the importance of pipeline safety. Peggie was a ray of sunshine with unlimited vigor, passion, and a witty sense of humor.She could put a smile on anyone's face and never met a stranger. Peggie's family was by far her greatest passion.Preceeded in death by her father Victor Roane and her mother Aileen Smith, she leaves behind her husband Dwight N. Haddock of Combine, Texas; daughter April Mae Haddock of Portland, Oregon; and daughter Amber Rose Haddock of Dallas, Texas. Other family members include sister Vicki Sue Roane, step-daughter Rhonda Renee Bigger, step-granddaughter Lauren Bouland, step-grandson Quincy Bigger, aunt and uncle Jerry and Bill Miller, and a host of other aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. Interment will occur at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1000 S. Highway 175, Seagoville, Texas, 75159, (972)287-2121, immediately after the service.
