Elaine Hoffman

Elaine Meyer Hoffman passed away peacefully of advanced dementia, November 17, 2023, at Long Creek Memory Care. She was born January 12, 1945, in Gainesville, Texas to Earl and Jane Faulkner Meyer. Elaine grew up in Gainesville, Texas and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1963. After graduation, she attended Cooke County Junior College where she met her future husband, Richard Hoffman. They were married September 5, 1964. After graduating from Cooke County Junior College in 1965, she attended East Texas State University, where she graduated in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. Her lifelong ambition was to be an elementary teacher, and after graduation she was hired by Mesquite Independent School District to teach fourth grade at John L. Hanby Elementary. She received her master's degree in 1974 from ETSU and became the librarian at Hanby Elementary when a library was opened. In the fall of 1982, she transferred to the new Ruby Shaw Elementary when it opened as the school's librarian. Elaine retired in 2002 after teaching 34 years for Mesquite ISD. She was a member of First Presbyterian of Mesquite.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Richard Hoffman; son, Christopher B. Hoffman and wife, Jamie Tressler, her grandchildren, Zac and Alex Hoffman; sister, Wilma Butman and her husband, Steve; brother, James Meyer and his wife, Dianne and two nieces and a nephew.
