The mystics say One should experience Each day and Situation As a new thing Never before seen. Jesus said The way to heaven is through the wonder Of a child. And I believe them. But my humanity - scars, Formed by the fires Of consciousness And knowledge, Forge for me An analytical interaction Of hesitant motion And I look at the world And its denizens With wary eyes. But occasionally I am incited To a joyous participation Of self with environment: Like today When I was surprised By summer rain. By Paul Hunter ...1988
