Paul Wayne Cathey passed peacefully into heaven on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 91. Paul was born September 17, 1931 in Hunt County Texas to Ida and Martin Cathey. He spent his childhood in Hunt County with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. Paul graduated from Quinlan High School in 1947. He proudly served in the Army in the US and Germany from January 1953 until December 1954. On November 28, 1953 Paul married the love of his life, Virginia. They were together 69 years. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 36 years inspecting bridges and building many of the roads in and around the Dallas area. Paul was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Atomic Veterans and North Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Club. He served as an Elder for Christian Care Center Church of Christ for many years. His hobbies were reading, cross word puzzles and restoring antique tractors. One of his proudest moments was being accepted onto Honor Flight 36 where he and other veterans attended all of the war memorials in Washington, D.C.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brother Hiram Wilcher Cathey. He is survived by wife Virginia; daughter Paula Clement and husband Gary of Forney; son Paul Cathey and husband Tony Watson of Cedar Hill; grandsons Scott Clement and Blake Watson and wife Kelli; granddaughter Karisa Watson; great-grandchildren Seth Clement, Declan Clement, Logan and Beau Watson, and Kingston Watson. He is also survived by sister Winona Rodgers, sister-in-law Betty DeRuvo, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services are on Monday, August 7th at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. at the Christian Care Community Chapel located at 1000 Wiggins Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75150.
