Paul Eugene Carter was born September 17, 1951 in Waco, Texas to the late W.D. Carter and Virginia Baccus Carter. Paul passed away October 20, 2024 in Mesquite, Texas after a long battle with kidney disease.
Growing up as an only child, Paul enjoyed helping in his dad's Safeway grocery store. In 1969, Paul graduated from Grand Prairie High School. He continued his education at Texas Christian University, graduating with a degree in Business Management in 1973. A proud Horned Frog, Paul remained an active alumnus for the rest of his life. In 1982, Paul earned a masters degree from S.M.U..
Paul's career in the banking industry was filled with many titles. He was known for his integrity, compassion, and willingness to help others. A phrase he used on many occasions was "Do the right thing". He was always a leader who nurtured so many as they began their careers. His counsel was often sought by others. He truly cared about his coworkers, his customers, and his community. A kind, thoughtful man, Paul will be remembered for his extremely generous nature.
In 1977, Paul married Tarris Meyer in Colombus, Nebraska and brought his bride to Texas. For 47 years, Paul and Tarris enjoyed life together in Tyler, Longview, and, primarily, Mesquite. In 1983, they welcomed their son Alec. Paul supported Alec thru many activities, even serving as soccer coach. Indeed, he and Alec were each other's best friend. Perhaps Paul's most beloved title was that of "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Tarris; precious son and daughter-in-law, Alec and Espy Carter; treasured grandchildren, Evelyn and Wyatt Carter and Daniel Ly. He will also be missed by many extended family members, dear friends, and former colleagues.
