Pamela Sue Massey Vorwerk passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family, and left this world knowing she was loved and cherished.
Pam was born on June 3, 1948 to Gene and Marian Massey in Burlington, Iowa. She graduated from Burlington High School, attended Burlington Junior College, and then Western Illinois University. While working at Neisner’s Dime Store in Burlington, she met her love and life-long partner, Joe Vorwerk. They married on March 16, 1968 in Burlington, Iowa. They later moved to Lansing, Kansas where they had their first daughter, Shelly, then to Blue Springs, Missouri. In 1973, they moved to Texas, where their youngest daughter Jani was born. Upon moving to Texas, they settled in Mesquite, where Pam lived until the time of her passing. In 1974, Pam began her lengthy career with Sears, working in several different areas of the company, ranging from personnel to remodeling to human resources. Although she enjoyed her many years at Sears, Pam’s life was mostly devoted to her family and her church. She and her family were dedicated and faithful members of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed UCC Church. She was an extremely involved member - she served on the Consistory, sang in the choir, and was notorious for organizing special dinners and receptions.
Pam was most proud when speaking of her children, Shelly and Jani. She loved her sons-in-law, David and Albert, as though they were her own. She was beyond thrilled when she became a grandmother to Ella and Troy, who brought her constant joy.
Pam was a very talented musician. Before she married Joe, she served as a church organist, then in later years, regularly sang in the choir. She enjoyed listening to music, especially hymns and her beloved Kenny Rogers. Pam was an excellent cook and an inspiring hostess. She enjoyed traveling, particularly, taking cruises with her church friends, as well as spending time in Lake of the Ozarks with her family. Like her mother, she loved watching the birds in her yard, and, also like her mother, her favorite bird was the cardinal. Above all, Pam was always a lady, and always presented herself with dignity and poise, even during her illness.
Pam joins her parents, grandparents, and sister Deborah Miller in the Kingdom of Heaven. She is survived by Joe, her husband of 52 years, daughter Shelly Vega (Albert) of Wylie, TX, daughter Jani Tulle (David) of Trophy Club, TX, grandchildren Ella and Troy Tulle, sister Stacey Wachter (Randy) of Burlington, IA and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as her extended Vorwerk family. She will be missed every day by her family and friends.
