Oleta Terry-Potter departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2013.She was born to Cleon and Cora Pippin Spradling in the County Line community of Rains County, Texas, on October 13, 1935, in the front bedroom of her Grandpa Henry Pippin's farmhouse.She was baptized in a stock pond and joined the Daugherty Baptist Church in 1948, where she continued to be a member for the remainder of her life. She attended grade school and junior high at Daugherty and Miller Grove, and graduated from Emory High School in 1953, where she met her first love, Hubert Terry.She and Hubert married a week after graduation on June 5, 1953, at her grandmother Sidney Spradling's home in the Daugherty community.Shortly thereafter, she and Hubert moved to Dallas where Oleta worked several years for Employers Insurance.She also worked as a greeter for the Farmers Market of Dallas at the State Fair of Texas for several years and she retired in 2004 from Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary to the pastor for twenty years. Oleta and Hubert were blessed in December 1960 with the birth of their first son, Kevin.Shortly after his birth, they moved to Mesquite to raise their family.In September 1970, they were blessed once again with the birth of their son, Kyle. Oleta and Hubert served the youth of Mesquite for over twenty years by their involvement with Mesquite Baseball, Mesquite Pee Wee Football, City of Mesquite Basketball, The Boys Club, Boy Scouts, and the PTA, for which they both were awarded honorary life memberships. Hubert Terry passed away suddenly in December 1990. Oleta married Herbert Potter of Seagoville on January 13, 1996.She and Herbert continued to make their home in Mesquite, which was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a shoulder to lean on, or for someone to just listen.Oleta lived life to the fullest, traveled a great deal, and never went anywhere that she did not see someone she knew.She was a friend to those without and a mom to all who needed one. Oleta is survived by her husband Herbert, of Mesquite, her son Kevin and his wife Diane, of Mesquite, their son Michael and his wife Kathleen, of Arlington, her son Kyle, of Mesquite, and his daughter Erin, of Quitman.She is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a host of friends. Oleta was preceded in death by her parents Cleon and Cora Spradling, both in 1989, her brother Bobby Henry Spradling, in 1930, and her husband Hubert.
