He was the youngest of 5 children and spent his childhood in Celina, TX. He was a proud Celina Bobcat and was awarded football All-State in 1945. He met Ann Jones during his junior year of high school before graduating in 1946. Wayne and Ann were married on May 10, 1947 in Celina, TX. The couple was blessed with three sons, Michael, Bobby, and Ricky.
He began his career at General Electric Supply Company, first working at the counter then later working in outside sales where he made many personal friendships with customers, suppliers, and co-workers. He was eager to retire after 40 years in the workforce, however, after one year he returned to the sales industry at the request of a respected colleague. He worked at Maverick Electric Supply for 3 years alongside his youngest son before retiring for the second and final time.
For many years you would find Wayne in the Celina Bobcat stands cheering on his favorite team, most often alongside his eldest son. He was very proud to be a mentor and little league baseball coach in the 60s and 70s, which transformed into a love for the Texas Rangers. He and Ann loved traveling domestically with their Roadrunner RV club and abroad. Some of his favorite destinations were The Valley, Las Vegas, London, and Switzerland. He was a seasoned gardener and enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables in his garden behind his back fence. Wayne loved the thrill of competition beyond the football field. He was a competitive card and domino player and was even known to flip a table or two in the heat of a game.
Wayne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mesquite where he was baptized 60 years ago. Most recently Wayne and Ann attended the Dallas County Cowboy Church, alongside their middle son.
Wayne was an extremely loving and tender-hearted man. He built life-long relationships in every stage of his life. He maintained friendship with high school classmates, GESCO and Maverick co-workers, customers and suppliers, Roadrunner RV Club members, and many more. Most of all, Wayne was a family man and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew he loved all his family dearly.
