HERNANDEZ, Nicolas (Nick) V., 77, was born in Dallas, TX. on December 16, 1931, lost his battle with cancer on October 4, 2009 at his home in Mesquite, TX. Nick was a carrier for the Dallas Morning News when he was awarded one of two scholarships given by the Dallas Morning News for outstanding leadership and community service to attend Southern Methodist University when he was called to serve in the Korean War serving in U. S. Marine Corp as a Sergeant from 1950 " 1952. He was awarded Korean Service Medal W/1* and UN Ribbon. Upon returning home he worked for the U. S. Postal Service before entering the insurance industry. He founded his insurance agency in 1970 and continued working loyally until his death. He was active in several community organizations in and around Mesquite. Nick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine M. Hernandez and his parents, Tomas & Juanita Hernandez. Nick is survived by his loving children, Tom V. Hernandez & wife, Melissa; Matthew L. Hernandez & wife, Karen; Jeanette K. Plummer & husband, Perry and Cynthia J. Hernandez. Nick hasnine grandchildren & twogreat grandchildren: Chelsea, Ashley, Nicolas II, Alison, Amanda, Amy, Charley, Katie, Hannah, Emma and Joshua. He is also survived by his brother, Gilbert A. Hernandez & wife, Catalina; sister, Virginia P. Gonzales & husband, Carlos and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews & friends. Our father will be greatly missed for he touched so many lives in a positive way because he would always put others before himself. The Hernandez family thanks everyone for the kindness, thoughts and prayers during these past several months. We could not have made it through this hard battle without each and everyone of you. Service will be 10:00AM Wednesday October 7, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale. 3018 N. Beltline Rd., Sunnyvale, TX. 75182. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00PM " 8:00PM.
