Nicholas Edward Thornton was born May 3, 1941 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Jack and Ruth Thornton.He was the youngest of three children.His sister is Ann Robinson of Houston, Texas and his brother, Jack, lives in Greenville, South Carolina. Nicholas attended high school in Chicago, Illinois and college at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi for three years. He married the love of his life, Myrna, on August 5, 1976.He was beloved by his children and grandchildren: Daughter Carol Halverson and her husband, Mark and their daughter, Juliane Daughter Cathy Pennington and her husband, Steve, and their sons, Zachary and Samuel Daughter Cindy Nix and her husband, Kevin, and their daughters, April and Adalee Daughter Christine Wiernusz and her husband, Chet, and their daughter, Bailey, and their sons, Max and Wes Daughter Rebecca McHargue and her children, Alison, Jennifer, Nicholas and Brandon.Rebecca died unexpectedly this past June at the age of 32. His only son, Augustus Thornton Twenty-six years ago, Nicholas moved to Texas and started in the business of buying and selling used printing equipment.In 1985, Nicholas designed and manufactured numerous machines for the finishing industry.He was fortunate to be able to travel internationally with his business. On January 28, 2004 Nicholas was diagnosed with lung cancer.After a short illness, Nicholas passed away Friday, February 6, 2004 at Parkland Memorial Hospital.A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, February 9 at 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 205 W. Brin in Terrell, Texas.The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Parkland Memorial Hospital. The family would like to thank Parkland Memorial Hospital for the excellent care Nicholas received during his short stay there.We would especially like to thank Dr. Wells, Dr. Sherry, Dr. Spangler, and Dr. DeMarco.
