Morris Gilbert

Morris A. "Cotton" Gilbert entered into eternal life October 7, 2009 at the age of 86. Cotton was born to William and Mollissie (pronounced Melissa) Gilbert at the family home in Emory, Texas on February 27, 1923. He was the oldest son of 13 brothers and sisters. He entered into the U.S. Army on February 11, 1943 and was discharged with honors on December 12, 1945. Cotton worked at Shedd Bartus Foods beginning in July of 1949 and retired in February 1985. He was a member of the Wildwood Baptist Church of Mesquite for 55 years. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 63 years Thelma Gilbert, daughter; Dottie and husband Mark Gibson, son; Robby and wife Betty, son; Billy Morris and wife Missy, 8 grandchildren; Stefany and husband Billy McDonald, Jody and wife Stacey Helsley, Darla Gilbert and friend Jose Fernandez, Carla and husband Wes Linsley, Kimberly Gibson and friend Anthony Huffman, Ashley and husband Jason Homan, Becca Gilbert and James Gilbert, 7 great grandchildren; Cody McDonald, Joey Gilbert, Cheyene Helsley, Sierra Helsley, Dakota Helsley, Addison McDonald and Eli Homan, 4 brothers and sister-in-laws; Oney and Norma Gilbert, Troy and Betty Gilbert, Cecil and Ann Gilbert, Jack and Barbara Gilbert, 2 sisters; Consawilla O'Rear and Opal Farley, 3 sisters and brother-in-laws; 'Y" and Don Chance, Pat and Raymond Minor, Diane and Steve Dunlap, 2 sister-in-laws; Charline Gilbert and Dixie Gilbert and a host of nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Mollissie (pronounced Melissa) Gilbert, 2 brothers; John and Bill Gilbert, 2 sisters; Wilma Jo Gilbert and Willie Mae Blaylock. Funeral Services will be held at Wildwood Baptist Church of Mesquite at 1:00PM on the 9th day of October , 2009. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening October 8th from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Burial will be at Grove Hill in Dallas, Texas.
